The whole world is excited about the launch of iPhone 7 which is going to happen in just a few hours. There are a lot of rumors began to pour just like rain about the next generation iPhone that is due for launch in 2017.

The iPhone 7 doesn’t have any major upgrades or features except the dual camera setup in the iPhone 7 Pro, which Apple saved several new features for the iPhone 8. The iPhone 8 will get a complete overhaul in design as well as features. Let’s see them in detail.

Apple iPhone 8 Specs, Features, Release Date, Price, and Photos

Naming

The first generation iPhone was launched in the year 2007 that goes by the name iPhone. Apple is following a numerical pattern for naming since its launch with letter ‘S’ adding to the number for the alternative year.

2007 – iPhone
2008 – iPhone 3G
2009 – iPhone 3GS
2010 – iPhone 4 (new design)
2011 – iPhone 4s
2012 – iPhone 5 (new design)
2013 – iPhone 5s
2014 – iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus (new design)
2015 – iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus
2016 – iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus
2017 – iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus

As per Apple’s naming system, the 2017 year iPhone should be called as iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus. But owing to the fact that Apple will bring some groundbreaking elements such as design, hardware, and features, we are likely to expect Apple to skip ‘S’ pattern  to the whole number. So, the 2017 iPhone should be iPhone 8.

Design and Display

Apple to likely ditch the traditional aluminum unibody design and bring back the glass-backed body, that we saw in iPhone 4. The reason why Apple introduced aluminum body is to differentiate Apple branding from other. All other phone makers started to adopt metal unibody in design, and that makes Apple bring back the old school design.

Apple should be adopting the latest glass technology on its next iPhone in order to cut down overall weight. Many reports suggest that Apple is in works of making three trims of iPhone 8 – standard 4.7-inch, 5.5-inch and the last 6.5-inch. Not all these model will have glass body but we can expect it to be on the premium model.

We’ve earlier reported that Apple has signed a deal with Samsung to deliver OLED displays for the 2017 Apple devices. Apple has signed a pact with other display manufacturers to ship OLED, AMOLED, and Micro-LED displays as well.

The next generation iPhone is entitled to have cutting edge OLED curved display with an edge-to-edge display. This means Apple will ditch the home button and the display will take the entire front part – no top, bottom, or side bezels.

Interestingly, the edge-to-edge display iPhone prototype was much expected in iPhone 7, but Apple took the technology right way to iPhone 8. Multiple reports claim that iPhone 8 will have  a dual-curve OLED display with no side buttons.

Processor:

The next generation iPhone will run on A11 chip which is built on a 10-nanamoter manufacturing process. The upgrade in processing technology will have the A11 chip faster and energy efficient, given to the fact that it will be smaller than A10 processor.

The iPhone 8 will run the next iteration of Apple’s iOS 11.

Wireless Charging

Apple R&D is in the works of long-range wireless charging technology which should be used in the 2017 iPhone.  Samsung’s Galaxy S7 lineup used wireless charging technology; however, the device should be kept on the charging mat.

Apple is working on a technology that doesn’t require the devices to be closer to the charging mat. You can use your phone while it is charging.

Iris Scanner

The highlight of the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 is its eye-scanning technology that lets the user lock and unlock the phone by simply staring at it.

Apple will be implementing this tech on its iPhone 8 with improved biometric features. The production of iris scanning chips is already begun that would be fully shipped in 2017.

Storage

Apple is likely to include Samsung NAND flash memory in 2017 iPhone. So we can expect Apple to offer 256GB variant along with the 32GB, 64GB, and 128GB.

Camera

The Camera is the major upgrade in iPhone 7, which is likely to retain in iPhone 8 with additional features and tech. The iPhone 7 Plus or Pro that have dual camera setup – two 12-megapixel lens, optical zoom, and light field camera applications.

Waterproofing

The iPhone 7 will be first in iPhone lineup to include waterproofing technology – IPX7 rating – that can withstand water immersion for up to 30 minutes.

Wireless Headphones

Similar to Samsung Gear IconX, Apple is working on headphones that will not have wires but accounted to lighting port.

Release Date

Apple’s favorite month in the calendar is September. This is when Apple will launch the new iPhone in the first two weeks. Apple will certainly follow the same pattern for iPhone 8 too.
