Indian homegrown SUV maker Mahindra and Mahindra has unveiled its much-awaited SUV, the NuvoSport for the Indian market with prices starting at INR 7.35 lakh (ex-showroom Thane). The new sub-four meter SUV will be replacing the Quanto sub-compact SUV in Mahindra’s SUV lineup. The new SUV is completely based on the same modular platform of Scorpio and TUV300, and that comes loaded with a wide array of features and upgrades.
Though its silhouette looks similar to Mahindra Quanto, its entire front has been revamped giving an aggressive, rugged and muscular look to the SUV. The redesigned bumper looks brawny too and gets a faux skid plate, angular head-lamps, LED DRLs, and a chunky black grille. Muscular character lines and a functional scoop work to add drama. The SUV rides on the stylish sport alloy wheels while the side profile retains the same, save for the revised ORVMs, black cladding on the lower section of the side and rear profiles. The inside cabin space has also been increased, thanks to the new design.
The new Mahindra NuvoSport uses a 1.5-litre three-cylinder mHawk diesel mill tuned to produce 100bhp of power at 3750rpm and a peak torque of 240Nm between 1600-2800rpm. The engine is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox and an optional 5-speed AMT unit is also available. There are two modes of driving – Power and Eco – with the latter getting the power output dropped to 71.6bhp at 3250rpm and 180Nm of torque between 1600-2100rpm. The SUV returns an ARAI certified fuel efficiency figure of 17.45Km/l.
