The US Army is very keen on the technology on wheels, that’s really silent and runs cool. Why it is different from other trucks in existence. Ditching the roaring diesel and gasoline engines, the Chevrolet Colorado ZH2 is powered by Hydrogen Fuel Cell, which means is completely electric. There won’t be any sounds coming out of the engine for effective stealthy operations, and of course, zero emissions, making it a Green Car. It runs cooler without generating heat, so it won’t be caught up on thermal cameras.
What Makes Chevrolet Colorado ZH2 Different?
Moreover, Hydrogen electricity powered electric vehicles can produce enormous torque at low speed. The Chevrolet Colorado ZH2 is powered by a 92-KW fuel cell that generates electricity out from Hydrogen and Oxygen, leaving behind two gallons of water an hour, making it useful for Army at deserts. The hydrogen electric motor produces 174 horsepower that accommodates all-wheel drive. As it is powered by hydrogen fuel cell, it can be refueled in minutes that make it different from battery powered electric cars which has to be plugged in, waiting for hours.
“The advantage of hydrogen fuel cell technology is that you can get it from almost any other form of energy, renewable, grid, or conventional liquid fuels,” says Freese. “You could put a reformer up near forward stations, and strip the hydrogen off the JP-8.”
The Colorado ZH2 however won’t end up for public use, so you won’t be able to experience the magic of this beast. After the rigors test by the US Army, the Colorado ZH2 will join the US Army in late 2017, accompanying in battle grounds.
