BMW unveiled its one of the most anticipated cars of 2016, the BMW M2 on the floor of the Detroit Auto Show. The new sports sedan is similar to M235i, but it packs a potent inline-six up front driving the rear wheels.

Powering the machine is the 3.0-litre six cylinder turbo mill that pumps out 365hp at 6500rpm and 465Nm of torque from as low as 1400rpm, paired to either six-speed manual or seven-speed dual –clutch transmission.

The M2 will accelerate from standstill to 96km/h in an aggressive 4.2 seconds while the manual slightly increases to 4.4 seconds and on to an electronically-limited top speed of 250 km/h.

The most significant feature of M2 is its lightweight design, weighing only 1564kg that sees a considerable reduction of 38kg over the M235i. While the M2 isn’t much lighter, it is significantly more aggressive thanks to the beefy M body kit.

The kit includes a revised front bumper fascia with large air intakes and exceptionally menacing air intake surrounds. Moving to the sides are boisterous flared wheel arches, extended side skirts and a set of 19-inch forged wheels wrapped with Michelin Pilot Super Sports tyres. Completing the exterior look is a small boot lid lip spoiler, bold bumper and quad tailpipes.
