Johnny Depp

Johnny Depp, who is well known for his portrayal of Captain Jack Sparrow in the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ franchise, will be playing the lead in King of the Jungle. The dark comedy film is based on the true story of John McAfee, the creator of McAfee antivirus software.

The plot of the story is an adaptation from an article published on Wired magazine tilted ‘John McAfee’s Last Stand’ by Joshua Davis that explores the life of John McAfee, who made fortune, left civilization and relocated to a jungle in Belize in Central America. He built a compound of “guns, sex, and madness” out there and led an unusual life of crime which was believed to have killed US expatriate Gregory Viant Faull. But he was not charged for the murder. He moved to Guatemala seeking asylum, but he was deported back to the United States in 2012.

The film will be directed by Glenn Ficarra and John Requa and the script will be written by Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski. Condé Nast’s Dawn Ostroff and Jeremy Steckler are also on hand to produce the movie alongside Charlie Gogolak, Joshua Davis, Marc Butan and Joshuah Bearman.

Condé Nast Entertainment, Zaftig Films, MadRiver Pictures, and Epic Entertainment are also backing the production, whilst IMR International are on board to handle the foreign sales at Cannes and CAA will oversee domestic rights.

The 53-year old will be next seen in Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales,  Fox’s Murder on the Orient Express, Miramax’s LAbyrinth and Warner Bros.’ Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them 2.
