Instagram Blocks Telegram and Snapchat links

The Facebook-owned photo sharing network Instagram is now blocking users from linking to Telegram and Snapchat on its platform.

Previously, users were able to link to a range of social networking platforms on the ‘add me’ or ‘follow me’ section of their account.

“We’ve removed the ability to include ‘add me’ links on Instagram profile pages. This was a rare use-case, and not the way our platform was intended to be used.

Other types of links are still allowed,” a spokesperson for the company told TechCrunch, specifying users can still link to Telegram and Snapchat but not as an ‘add me’ link.

This isn’t the first time a Facebook-owned service pulling out Telegram links, Whatsapp also removed the ability to deep link to its rival messaging app. Telegram, which recently hit 100 million monthly active users, continues to be one of the biggest competitors of WhatsApp.

Instagram, however, continues to support Twitter, LinkedIn and, of course, Facebook links. If you try to add a Telegram or a Snapchat profile, you’ll get an error message as shown below:
