Maserati has unveiled its first SUV, the Levante, at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show. The new Maserati Levante takes us back to the ages when the first Maserati Kubang concept car showcased at the Frankfurt Auto Show 2011. It’s been six years, and we are looking at the company’s first SUV, that houses sporting credentials and has a drag coefficient of 0.31, putting it at the top of the class.

The Maserati Levante is based on the company’s popular platform used in the Ghibli and Quattroporte, but it uses an updated version. There is an air shutter behind the grille, which controls the amount of air entering inside the engine in order to achieve better aerodynamics.

The Levante will be available in three versions – two kinds of petrol and one diesel. All the models get air suspension, four-wheel drive and a torque vectoring system as standard. The Levante has been constructed to offer greater handling and performance on both on-road as well as off-road.

Maserati LevanteBoth the petrol models – the Levante 350 and 450 – will be powered by the same 3.0-liter V6 engine. The top spec variant produces 424bhp of power, completes the 0-62mph sprint in just 5.2sec, and has a top speed of 164mph. The Levante 350 is good for 345bhp that accelerates from 0-62mph in 6.0sec before hitting the electronically limited top speed of 156mph.

On the other hand, the diesel variant gets a 3.0-liter V6 engine that develops 271bhp and 600Nm of torque. The vehicle reaches 62mph in 6.9sec with a top speed of 143mph. All the models will come with an eight-speed automatic gearbox, four-wheel drive and air suspension as standard.

Inside, all versions of Levante gets leather seats, an 8.4in touchscreen infotainment system, cruise control, hill descent control, climate control, alloy and an electrically operated tailgate. Also, it gets an optional tow bar, and the Levante has the maximum towing capacity of 2700kg.
