Motorola today at its Delhi event announced the most anticipated fourth generation of its popular budget line-up – Moto G smartphones. Two variants of the Moto G were revealed, the Moto G4 and the Moto G4 Plus. While the G4 Plus name hints at a larger device in terms of display and specifications, both the variants come with a similar package inclusive of screen size, processor except the camera specs.
While the company isn’t revealing the pricing of the Moto G4, the Moto G4 Plus has been priced at Rs. 13,499 for the 16GB model that comes with 2GB of RAM and the 32 variant with 3GB RAM is priced at Rs. 14,999. The handset will be available on Amazon India starting today in black and white colors.
Both the G4 and G4 Plus have a 1080p 5.5-inch display which is a bump from last phone’s 720p 5-inch offering. The display features a pixel density of 401ppi and Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection. Powering them is a Snapdragon 617 octa-core processor paired with Adreno 405 GPU and comes with either 2GB or 3GB RAM depending on the storage you opt for. There’s a bump in the battery as well. The G4 and the G4 Plus have a larger 3,000mAh battery with TurboPower functionality for fast charging.
While these two smartphones share the same spec almost, they differ in two points. The Plus variant has a fingerprint sensor and a16MP rear camera with laser and phase detection autofocus (PDAF), f/2.0 aperture and big pixels. And, the regular G4 sports a 13MP rear camera with no laser autofocus. Both have a 5MP front snapper with an 84-degree wide field of view and f/2.2 aperture.

The company is saying that the new 16MP camera in Plus model is the prime focus for bidding a higher price than the G4. The independent image analysis company DxOMark has apparently rated the Moto G Plus’ photo quality ahead of iPhone 6S and 6S Plus. That bodes well, although it did have to concede that this rating only pertained to images, implying that the video and overall scores were lower.
There’s a third variant of the G4 called the Moto G4 Play, but we do not have much details of the phone at hand. However, it will be the cheapest model among the family. While the G4 Plus debuting In India today, the G4 is making its debut in Brazil. The company said that the pricing of the G4 will be revealed on its arrival to the country.
