MWC 2016: Sony Xperia X, Xperia XA, Xperia X Performance launched

    Sony introduced all-new X series of smartphones at the ongoing Mobile World Congress conference in Barcelona on Monday. The company announced three new smartphones under the X series branding – the Xperia X, Xperia XA, and Xperia X Performance.

    Sony Xperia X

    The Xperia X and Xperia X Performance share almost similar specifications except few innards such as chipset, battery, and some features. The Xperia X is packed together with the metal body, measures 142.7×69.4×7.9mm, and weighs 153 grams.

    Sony Xperia X Performance

    The Xperia X Performance also has metal exterior like the Xperia X but with a brushed finish. Measuring 143.7×70.4×8.7mm and weighing 164 grams, the handset comes with IP68 rating – dust and water resistance.

    Sony Xperia XA

    The Sony Xperia XA is more cost efficient than the other two. It still has a 5” screen, but no metal body or stereo speakers either. The rear camera has been compromised, and it’s a 1/3″ Exmor RS sensors with 13MP resolution with LED Flash. It measures 143.6×66.8×7.9mm, and weighs 138 grams.

    Xperia XA Specs:

    • 5” Triluminos display, 720p resolution, 294ppi pixel density
    • MediaTek MT6755 (8 Cortex-A53 cores)
    • 3GB RAM
    • 16GB Storage
    • microSD card slot (up to 200GB)
    • Cameras: Rear:  13MP/1080p with 1/3″ sensor, Hybrid AF/ Front: 8MP
    • Android 6.0 Marshmallow
    • 2,300mAh battery

    Sony says that the predictive hybrid autofocus feature in the Xperia X and Xperia X Performance smartphones has been developed in close collaboration with the company’s Alpha camera engineers. The feature lets users choose a subject and then predict its motion, so one can capture the action in perfect focus, free from blur.

    All the phones will be available in single and dual-SIM variants with White, Graphite Black, Lime Gold and Rose Gold color options.
