Toyota has finally taken the wraps off the new Innova Crysta at the ongoing Auto Expo in India, which made its global debut in Indonesia last year. The new Innova is likely to go on sale in India by the end of this year.

The new Innova Crysta is based on the TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture) platform. The next-gen MPV is lighter, larger, wider, and taller than the outgoing model, but retains the same wheelbase of 2750mm.

Although the MPV’s silhouette appears to be identical to its predecessor, it is designed in line with Toyota’s global design language. The fascia features all-new twin-slat grille, sweptback headlamps with DRLs and new fog housing.

On the rear, it gets a newly designed bumper, revamped tail lamps among others. As for the interiors, 2016 Innova’s cabin gets automatic climate control, power windows, steering-mounted controls, touchscreen infotainment system with navigation, Bluetooth connectivity, and USB and AUX-IN. However, most of these features are only available in the top-end variants.

The new Innova will be offered with a choice of two engines – a 2.0-litre VVT-i petrol and the new 2.4-litre GD diesel. The petrol version is good for 137bhp and 186Nm of torque while the diesel version makes 147bhp and 342Nm on torque.

Transmission is fulfilled by a five-speed manual and a six-speed automatic gearbox. The new 2.4-litre diesel engine is 10 percent more fuel-efficient than the outgoing diesel variant.
