Oppo R9 and R9 Plus with 16MP selfie cameras are now official in China

    The much-anticipated camera-focused smartphones – the Oppo R9 and Oppo R9 Plus were made official in China today. Both the smartphones have the same design language in common, but their innards differ to a great extent.

    The significant highlight of both the Oppo R9 and R9 Plus is that they equip a 16-megapixel front snappers mated with an f/2.0 aperture with a 78.1-degree field of view. Interestingly, the Oppo R9 rear gets a lower resolution senor than the front, which doesn’t at all mean it’s actually lower – 13-megapixel camera with LED flash, with an f/2.2 aperture. The R9 Plus, on the other hand, packs Sony’s IMX298 CMOS sensor in its 16-megapixel rear camera with an f/2/0 aperture. Both the smartphones support features such as PDAF (phase detection autofocus) and 4K video recording.

    The Oppo R9 has a smaller screen than its sibling R9 Plus and it features a FHD 5.5-inch AMOLED display. The phone’s boasts minimalistic design with its bezels citing just 1.66mm on the sides, and the phone measures 151.8 x 74.3 x 6.6mm.

    Under the hood, the Oppo R9 is powered by a 2GHz octa-core MediaTek Helio P10 (MT6755) chipset, 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of internal storage. The handset features dual-SIM functionality with hybrid SIM slot and that can take up to 128GB via microSD card on it. It is backed by a 2850mAh battery.

    The Oppo R9 Plus comes with a larger 6-inch FHD AMOLED display. The side profiles are slightly wider at 1.76mm, but the screen-to-body ratio is still higher at 79.3% compared to 77.7% for the R9. Powering the phone is the 1.8GHz Snapdragon 652 processor, the phone packs 4GB of RAM, 64/128GB storage option as well as a hybrid microSD/second-SIM slot.  The powertrain is taken care by a 4120mAh battery.

    Both smartphones feature fingerprint sensor at the front below the display, VOOC Flash Charge, and usual connectivity options. The two phones come with 4g LTE support and the R9 is equipped with Bluetooth V4.0 while the R9 Plus with v4.1 – the notable difference between the two. Apparently, the Oppo R9 and R9 Plus run Android 5.1.1 Lollipop based ColorOS 3.0.

    The Oppo R9 is priced at CNY 2,799 ($430) in China, and is available for pre-order now, with shipments scheduled to start on March 24. The R9 Plus is obviously costlier at CNY 3,299 ($510) for the 64GB version and will hit Chinese shelves on April 12. Sadly, there is no word on its global availability just yet.
