Apple iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus are powered by a new generation A10 Fusion chip. It’s a 64 bit quad-core processor with over 3.3 billion transistors. Apple calls the first two cores as high performance cores. The new A10 Fusion is 40% faster than A9 and 2x faster processing than A8. The A10 is 120x faster than the original iPhone. The bump in processing speed from A8 to A10 is staggering.
The other two cores are high-efficiency cores which are energy efficient and powerful. There’s a performance controller inside the chip that controls the process between the four cores. It is the gateway for processing your apps that decides which two cores should process your application. In order to provide maximum battery life and maximum performance, the performance controller tosses the apps depending on their nature.
The graphics in A10 Fusion chip is really incredible. The new GPU in A10 Fusion chip has six cores that is 50% faster than the A9 in iPhone 6s and 6s Plus and 3x faster than the A8 powering the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. In terms of efficiency, the A10 consumes only 2/3 the power of A9 and 1/2 the power of A8. The graphics performance is 240X faster than the original iPhone.
Apple says the A10 Fusion chip is the most powerful chip ever in a smartphone.
