Check out Elon Musk’s $5 billion solar-powered Gigafactory

The Model 3 – Tesla’s most affordable electric car was launch recently and that was received well around the world, with 276,000 pre-orders in just three days of the launch. Even, Elon Musk, the person behind the million-dollar company underestimated the power of Model 3. The Model 3, however, the first car for the masses, will require tons of batteries for production. That’s where Tesla’s Gigafactory comes into game.

Elon Musk describes its massive 5.5 million square-foot Gigafactory as a way to “accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable transportation.” The first Gigafactory is nearing the completion stage, which is located at the outskirts of Nevada, the manufacturing facility that will be producing batteries for Tesls’s electric cars. The Gigafactory is also notable since it will be powered completely by renewable energy, according to Tesla.

Tesla’s first Gigafactory aims to start building battery cells by 2017, to coincide with the launch of the Model 3, reaching full capacity by 2020. But for now, all we can do is view the Gigafactory from the outside. And thanks to a drone pilot and his low-altitude quadrocopter, we can see how construction on the $5 billion building is coming along.
