Disney has launched a new virtual reality app called the Disney Movies VR on Steam aimed to offer fully immersive virtual reality experience at your own living room. It’s a hub comprising a handful of scenes and experiences from Disney’s own properties including Disney, Marvel and Lucasfilm.
The catch here is that the app is free and compatible with HTC Vive and the Oculus Rift. It has more than half a dozen of experiences from these three movies – The Jungle Book, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and Captain America: Civil War. It includes two immersive 3D scenes from the Jungle Book and a single war clip from the Civil War taken from the red carpet at the film’s premiere.
Disney’s move reflects mixed reviews on Steam though; it isn’t the best showcase for the VR possibilities for now. There are endless possibilities experimenting on virtual reality, Disney could bring a lot more into the app in the near future. The most anticipated Star Wars: Trials on Tatooine VR experience isn’t a part of the app right now, but we expect it to be launched sometime soon.
