LG India has finally launched the long-awaited smartphone in the country, the modular G5. The smartphone comes with premium specs and the highlight of the phone is its modular functionality that lets users to hook up add-ons to enhance the smartphone functionality. The modular accessories what LG calls as LG G5 Friends will be sold separately.

The LG G5 is entirely constructed out of metal, boasts a fluid design, not even the antenna strips at the back. There’s an expansion module, more likely to the modular design, which can be detached to utilize accessory packs. The LG G5 has a small button on the side that pops off the modular unit with a battery when pressed down, which accommodates several add-ons that come as an option. One of the accessories is the LG Cam Plus that adds an additional 1,100mAh battery, and controls for the phone’s camera – zoom dial, a video button, and a physical shutter. Along with the G5’s standard battery, this pack provides a combined 4,000mAh of power.

The second pack provides an improved audio quality designed in part by Bang & Olufsen DAC. With this pack, the phone delivers audio to the connected headphones by the way of a 32bit DAC, with phone’s standard 24bit DAC. This will help third-party manufacturers to make additional expansion packs, but adding these packs require rebooting the phone as battery comes along with the expansion module.


Coming to specifications, the LG G5 sports a 5.3-inch QHD display along with an always-on display. The Always-on display shows the time and selects notifications when the phone is not in use. The company claims that the secondary display only consumes 0.8% of total battery per hour. The phone is powered by a Snapdragon 820 chipset with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage with a microSD expansion support.


In terms of camera, the LG G5 sports dual camera setups like the V10 that has 16MP and 8MP rear sensors. The former has a 78-degree lens while the latter employs a 135-inch lens, which the company says to be the widest available on any smartphone. Images from both cameras can be merged with various effects and a real-time preview. There’s a fingerprint sensor below the rear camera unit and it packs a 2,800mAh battery. The handset supports 4G LTE along with USB 3.0 standard, NFC, Bluetooth 4.2, USB Type-C 2.0 port, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac connectivity options. Running Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow, the G5 will be available in Silver, Gold, Titan and Pink colors.

The LG 6 will be available for purchase in retail stores at Rs. 54,000, you can buy the smartphone a bit cheaper on Flipkart for Rs. 52,990.
