Reliance Jio, the only 4G IP network in India has stunned people as well as its incumbent operators with its lucrative offers like unlimited free data until December 31, 2016, free voice calling for lifetime, free access to its premium apps until December 31, so called cheap ‘data tariff plans’ in the world and unlimited data at night.
As per Reliance Jio’s philosophy, customers should have to pay only for one service that may be either data or voice. Jio’s aggressive marketing strategy and offers made other networks drop price on their tariffs while BSNL went on to a step further and announced a new Broadband plan exclusive for new customers that offers 1GB data for Re 1.
1GB Data for Re 1
In an attempt to take on Jio, BSNL, the subsidiary of Indian Government has recently announced an unlimited wired broadband plan which will be effective from September 9. While Jio touts offering 1GB of 4G data at Rs. 50, government-owned BSNL claims to offer the fastest internet of 1GB data for Re 1.
The new plan ‘BB 249’ offers unlimited 300GB of Data at Rs. 249 with no FUP. Customers will be entitled to 2Mbps speed under this plan for up to 300GB and then it will cut to 1 Mbps. However, this plan is only for new customers.
“Hence, per GB of data download cost comes out as less than Re 1 per GB. After six months, customer will be migrated to one of the regular broadband plan based on the choice of the customer,” BSNL said.
Unlimited Free Calls
Before Jio it was BSNL which provides unlimited free calls to any network but it’s applicable only on Sunday. It is effective since August 15. Moreover, the company is even offering free unlimited night calls (9pm to 7am).
