In a bid to tackle competition from incumbent telecom networks and aimed at providing between services to customers, the state owned telecom operator, BSNL has been providing various affordable data and voice plans since the launch of Reliance Jio. The latest development from BSNL is that they have reduced the cost of 3G data to three-fourths, down the cost of 3G data as low as Rs. 36 per GB under a special pack.
With the Rs. 291 plan, customer will now be able to get four times more data than the existing plan that now offers 8GB data with a validity of 28 days against 2GB earlier. The Rs 78 plan will double the data with same validity. “With these offers BSNL is now offering data at the rate of Rs 36 per GB which is one of the lowest in the Industry,” BSNL said.
“We are committed to providing affordable mobile services for all segments of the prepaid mobile customers. These offers will be valid from 6 February, 2017, on a pan-India basis,” BSNL board director for consumer mobility, R.K. Mittal, said. BSNL continues to dominate broadband market in fixed-line services segment, with 9.95 million customers, and ranks fifth in mobile broadband space with 20.39 million subscribers.
With the launch of Reliance Jio which will be offering 1GB data daily unto March 31, 2017 and thereafter customers have to pay for using the service accordingly to the tariff. Other telecom operators have slashed the cost of data down to 50 percent while Idea, the fourth largest telecom operator in India haa plans to provide 4G data as low as Rs 50 per GB.
