There are many ways to create Windows 10 installation USB media depending on the machine and platform you’re in. When you have only a Mac machine and you want to create a USB drive for Windows 10 installation, don’t worry, you can easily create a bootable USB drive with a Windows 10 installer. Thanks to the built-in Boot Camp Assistant which makes our jobs pretty much easy. Here are procedures involved to create a bootable Windows 10 flash drive from a Mac.
Step 1: First and foremost thing is that you need to download the Windows 10 ISO file. To do this, go to download page, select proper Windows 10 edition in the drop down and download. If you’re not sure about the various editions, simple select Windows 10.
After downloading the Windows 10 ISO file, you’ll need to create USB installer. Use the Boot Camp assistant to move the file to the drive.
Step 2: Insert a USB flash drive to your Mac, you should have enough space in your drive, at least, 8GB. Make sure not to have any important files on the drive, as the files will be deleted during the process.
Step 3: Open Boot Camp Assistant. If you don’t know where it is located, the easiest way to launch it is through Spotlight search. Press down Command and Spacebar, and then tap Enter to launch the application.
Step 4: Once it is launched, make sure to check “Create a Windows 7 or later version install disk” and uncheck “Install Windows 7 or later version.” Tap continue to proceed.
Step 5: Boot Camp Assistant will automatically locate the Windows 10 ISO file in the “Downloads” folder, however, make sure it has the right file. Alternatively, you can track down the file using the ‘Choose…’option. Also, make sure that the destination disk is the USB drive you’ve inserted.
Step 6: Click Continue. The process would take up to 20 minutes to format and set up the USB installer. Once it is done, the USB drive will be automatically renamed to WININSTALL. Tap Quit and eject the drive.
