Samsung on Thursday launched the virtual reality headset in India at an aggressive price tag of Rs. 8,200. Under the hood, the Gear VR headset is powered by Oculus VR software, the firm best known for it’s virtually reality devices. Alongside VR headset, Samsung has also launched two Gear smartwatches – the Gear S2 and S2 Classic, all of them will be made available for purchase through the company’s official retail stores and Flipkart starting from Thursday.
The new Gear VR headset will work seamlessly with the Galaxy smartphones, including the Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 edge, Galaxy S6 edge+, Galaxy Note 5 and the latest Galaxy Note 5 Dual SIM. As of now, the headset is only compatible with Samsung’s premium smartphones. The device sports a larger touchpad for controls and weighs only 318 grams that’s 19 percent lighter than its predecessor. The headset supports 96 degree field view and equips back, focus adjustments and volume buttons as well.
The device packs in gyro, proximity, accelerometer sensors, and a micro USB for charging. The headset strap is adjustable and flexible that wraps around your head conveniently. The headset supports 360-degree videos and the company hasn’t revealed any details whether the Gear VR will be accessible with Oculus videos and games, though the VR consumer edition that was launched last year was good with Oculus Video and Oculus Arcade for videos and games.
