Vivo XPlay 5 Elite with 6GB RAM, Snapdragon 820 goes official

    At an event in China, Vivo has set a new benchmark by launching the world’s first smartphone with 6GB of RAM, the Vivo Xplay 5 Elite. Vivo also launched a lighter version of the flagship, the Vivo XPlay 5 with 4GB of RAM.

    The Vivo XPlay 5 Elite is the most aggressive model packed altogether with metal and Gorilla Glass 4 for protection. The dual-SIM handset features a dual-curved 5.43-inch Super AMOLED Quad HD display with screen resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels. It is powered by a 2.15GHz quad-core Snapdragon 820 SoC coupled with 6GB of RAM and Adreno 530 GPU. The device sports 128GB of internal storage with no expandable slot option, a 3,600mAh battery, and a fingerprint sensor.

    Camera-wise, the phone has a 16MP rear camera with Sony IMX298 sensor, phase detection autofocus (PDAF), 6P Lens, f/2.0 aperture, and dual-tone LED flash. There’s an 8MP front snapper as well.

    Measuring 153.5×76.2×7.59mm, and weighing 167.8 grams, the Xplay5 Elite supports 4G LTE networks (Indian bands included), Hi-Fi 3.0 (2*ES9028+OPA1612), Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth v4.2, GPS, Micro-USB (with OTG).

    The Xplay 5 Elite runs Android 5.1 Lollipop with Funtouch OS 2.6 on top that features split-screen multitasking support. The XPlay 5 Elite will be hitting the stores in China on March 8 and will retail at CNY 4,288 ($655).

    The Vivo XPlay 5 is an affordable version of the Elite model that shares most of the specifications in common including 5.43″ Super AMOLED QHD display, camera setup, 128GB storage, fingerprint sensor, and connectivity options.

    However, it downgrades the chipset to Snapdragon 652 with 4GB of RAM and Adreno 510 GPU. It has a different Hi-Fi chip – CS4395+AD45257 as well. Measuring 153.5X76.2X7.59mm and weighing 167.8 grams, the XPlay 5 will launch in China on March 8 for CNY 3,698 ($565).

    There’s no word on when the flagships will be available outside China, but we can expect the two models to expand its wings later on.
