The Apollo Hospitals, Chennai have just released a press release about the health status of Honourable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, J Jayalalithaa, stating, “Continues to be Very Critical and is on ECMO and other life support systems.” The press note has worried the people of Tamil Nadu, AIADMK party cadres and supporters. She was shifted to CCU after she suffered a cardiac arrest on late evening on Sunday.
Subbiah Viswnathan, COO of Apollo Hospitals sais, “The Honourable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu who suffered a cardiac arrest yesterday evening, continues to be very critical and is on ECMO and other life support systems. The Honourable Chief Minister is being treated and closely monitored by a team of Experts.”
From the statement we can infer that Jayalalithaa health status goes worse and the text “Very Critical” has to be noted. This is the first time the hospital has used such words in their bulletin. She has been admitted to hospitals on September 22 which is almost 3 months she is in hospital.
Jayalalithaa has put on ECMO (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation) device, an extracorporeal technique of providing both cardiac and respiratory support to persons whose heart and lungs are unable to provide an adequate amount of gas exchange to sustain life.
Her lungs and heart are not in a state to function normal which needs an external device to make it function normally. This is the worst case in hospital history, if her body fails to adopt to life support devices, then everything is in the hands of God. Doctors have asked all to pray for her health.
A group of 4 AIIMS doctors have reached Chennai and rushing to the hospitals. After a minor operation performed, she has been closely monitored by Apollo doctors. She has been on ECMO support for around 10 hours, and it will take 24 hours, at least to know about her health status. Until then, she will be monitored.
Meanwhile, all AIDMK Ministers, MLAs and top Government officials have just attended a top meeting at the Apollo hospitals. It is not known what was discussed at the meeting. The state government is in red alert to handle any type of situation.
Party workers, who had gathered in large numbers outside the hospital after news of her cardiac arrest broke, braved midnight rains and continued to wait outside, praying for the recovery of ‘Amma’ (mother), as she is fondly called by her supporters.
