Born Andrew Barron Murray on May 15, 1987 in Glasgow, Scotland, he was raised in Scotland. He took up sporting activities at the age of three and participated in the competitive tournament at five. During his childhood, his knees were always a problematic for him, as he was born with a bipartite patella, where the kneecap hasn’t fused in early childhood, but was not diagnosed until the age of 16. His older brother named Jamie, is also professional tennis player.
